Semarang │March 18, 2017 University of Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) held the opening ceremony of Tapak Suci-based Character Education on Saturday, March 18, 2017. The program will be provided for second semester students of Unimus. The program is a semester-long program that will be taken by as many as 890 students. According to the schedule, the program will be held every Saturday afternoon till the end of the semester. It is a co-curricular along with 4 general compulsory subjects, such as Muhammadiyah and Islamic Studies, Basic Socio-Cultural Science, Pancasila and Civic Education.

Rector of Unimus, Prof. Dr. Masrukhi., MPd, accompanied by the Vice Rector II, Dr. Hj. Sri Rejeki, S.Kp., M.Kep., Sp.Mat. and the Vice Rector III, Drs. Samsudi Rahardjo, M.M., M.T. opened the training program in front of all the invited guests and students.

Also attending the event were chairman of Tapak Suci Regional Executive Board of Semarang, Dedi Ahyadi, Chairman of Muhammadiyah Regional Executive Board of Semarang, Drs. Danusiri, M. Ag., Vice Chairman of Council of Arts, Culture and Sports of Muhammadiyah Provincial Executive Board of Central Java, Drs. Tri Nurharsono., MPd,  chairman of Muhammadiyah District Executive Board of Tembalang, H. Edy Suryanta., M.S., team of Tapak Suci Trainers and also heads of Unimus’ faculties and study programs.

In his greeting speech, Rector of Unimus, Prof. Dr. Masrukhi., MPd., stated that Tapak Suci-based character education is hoped to be able to created graduates that will be strong especially mentally and confident in facing any challenges. He added that by mastering a martial art, a student will be mentally strong and ready to compete with and work side by side foreign workers that have been enormous in number in Indonesia. Moreover, he stated that other character values that would be taught to the students through Tapak Suci were that students would have the spirit to study on high levels and also the strong faith to Islam, through the internalization of prayers within the training. “Tapak Suci is chosen to blend with the four subjects for it emphasizes the character education such as responsibility, discipline and solidarity combined with faith and god-fearing” stated the Rector.

The opening ceremony was also fulfilled with the performance of 3 students of Unimus, i.e. Nunuk Eka (DIII in Nursing), Indah Lia Listiyani (DIV in Health Analyst) and Ilma Syifa (DIII in Health Analyst). They demonstrated some movements of Tapak Suci, either with bare hands or weapons. Following the event was training on basic movements of Tapak Suci for the students.
