Semarang │ June 8, 2017 Faculty of Engineering (Fakultas Tehnik-FT) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) held a seminar and workshop on robotics. The seminar was attented by students lecturers of the faculty, located in the campus of the Faculty of Engineering in Kasipah, Semarang. The guest speaker of the event was Bambang Supriyo, Ph.D., a lecturer at Polines, who is expert in robotics, and Ahmad Solichan, M.T., the head of Unimus Electrical Engineering Study Program.

Dr. R.M. Bagus Irawan, M.T., the Dean of Unimus Faculty of Engineering, stated in his greeting speech that the development robotic technology was very speedy and thus needed be anticipated by academicians, including by encouraging students and lecturers to actively give contributions in the Student Activity Unit (Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa-UKM) of Robotics. ”Learning robotic technology is a part of finding solutions for humans’ needs. Hence, campus should be able to give recommendations in the world of robotics,” added the dean. In order to meed with the needs and development of technology in the field, the Faculty of Engineering at Unimus is moved to make some breakthroughs. ”Holding seminars and discussions as well as preparing the establishment of student activity unit (of robotics), including starting some robotic researches are parts of out willingness to be serious in anticipating the rapid development in the robotic sphere” the dean added.

Bambang Supriyo as the primary guest speaker, explained that technology was useful to held humans’ works, most primarily in dealing with tasks that would be difficult to do without mechanical any assistance, for example heavy industry, military, medicine, and even those dealing with disaster management. ”Recently, in some college student-level robotic competitions, firefighting robots have been designed. However, the cost of a robotic research is not cheap,” revealed Bambang Supriyo. Meanwhile, the dean again added that the Faculty of Engineering at Unimus was preparing to establish Student Activity Unit of Robotics. The students and lecturers, especially in Electrical Engineering program, are expected to do something through the student activity unit.
