Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) held a general lecture entitled “Role and Strategy of Engineers to Deal with Globalization and Robotic Industry” in the Unimus’ Nursing Reserch Center Hall. 150 new students participated the event, consisting of students from Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The guest speakers of the lecture were Dr. RM. Bagus Irawan W, M.Si.IPM., the Faculty’s dean, and Dr. Eng. Munadi, M.T., from Universitas Diponegoro. Meanwhile, becoming the moderator was Dr. Purnomo. Lecturers and the Student Executive Board administrators of the Faculty were also invited to participate in the event.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Unimus delivered a material and gave spirit to motivate the new students.

Dr. Munadi, a researcher specialized in robotics who graduated from Japan, stated that whenever it was, experts in engineering were so needed. “Skills mastered by an engineer is used in many fields. Robotic technology created to simplify jobs and help the human life is also created by engineers,” he explained. Meanwhile, Dr. Bagus Irawan stated that there are a few of engineers in the country; the condition tended to retard the development of Indonesia. “Campus is demanded to create experts in this sphere. It is in line with the direction of development that requires lots of amendments of infrastructure,” he, the Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Engineers Association, revealed. He added that college students have made a correct choice by studying engineering at Unimus. “Job opportunities of graduates, from either electrical engineering or mechanical engineering programs are wide open considering the massive needs of engineers,” he added.
