Dr. Tri Hartiti, as the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences, opened the training of BT&CLS.

Semarang │(August 26, 2017) Nursing Program at Unimus holds a training on Basic Trauma (BT) and Cardiac Life Support (CLS) starting from today (August 26) to August 31, 2017, with 72 participants that consist of Unimus Nursing students and lecturers, as well as students from other institutions and clinical nurses. The event was officially opened today by the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences at Unimus (Dr. Tri Hartiti, S.K.M., M.Kep.). The opening ceremony was attended by the chairman of DPK PPNI Unimus (Ns. Chanif, MNS) and the training coordinator from AGD 118 Foundation, Jakarta.

Ns. Chanif, MNS stated that the training on BT & CLS was an attempt of the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences at Unimus to prepare graduates excellent at handling emergency. “participants will get a certificate that can be added to the Companion Certificate Surat Keterangan Pendamping Ijazah/SKPI) as evidence of their competence,” he added. He asserted that additional competences that Unimus’ students had will be an answer to the challenges in the nursing sector nowadays, especially since the Asean Economic Community (AEC) was established, making it possible for nurses from all ASEAN countries to work in each ASEAN member state. “This training gives a chance for graduates of Unimus to get the opportunity, and such the competence, we believe that our graduates won’t be left behind by graduates of other ASEAN countries,” he said.

Simulation of emergency condition handing was performed by the trainer of BT&CLS before the participants.

Ns. M. Satory, S.Kep., the representative of the AGD 118 Foundation from Jakarta, who also becomes this training’s coordinator stated that after finishing the training, all of the participants would get all concepts of knowledge, theories, and skills to deal with emergency situations . “The BT & CLS training is important to nurses because either an injury or a trauma can cause a sudden death so that nurses or other health workers should equip themselves with proper abilities. In this training, the participants will be able to analyze patients’ conditions quickly and analytically using airway, breathing, circulation, disability, and exposure (ABCDE) approaches” stated the trainer who has been experienced in the field for more than 20 years.

Activities in the training include classroom learnings, laboratory practices, and written and practical evaluations. Besides, a disaster simulation will also be practiced during the training. This training is important for a nursing graduate to be excellent at emergency nursing. This favorite competence is really needed by nurses to plunge into the society. After finishing the BT & CLS, the students are expected to take the further stage of training, which is Advance Trauma Cardiac Nurse (ATCN) or Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS), referring to the need of hospitals as users that base their performances on hospital accreditation standards.
