Semarang, April 18, 2017 Study Program of Food Technology of Unimus held a general lecture with a guest lecturer from Papa Ron’s Pizza. The theme of the lecture was “After Graduating, Let’s be Entrepreneurs: Tips to Start a New Business.” The guest lecturer was Mbak Melati Citra Anggraini, S.T.P., the Owner of Papa Ron’s Pizza Semarang. Dr. Nurhidajah, S.T.P, M.Si., the head of the study program, stated to the students in her welcoming speech that, “Papa Ron’s Pizza is an example of successful business. It was established in 2000 and now has 23 outlets throughout Indonesia, 6 out of them are in Jabodetabek (urban areas surrounding Jakarta). Ms. Anggi (a nickname for Melati Citra Anggraini) is a graduate of Food Technology program, her scientific background is the same as yours.“ She added that she is proud of Papa Ron’s Pizza as it is one of national brands that can compete with international franchises.
Mbak Anggi shared a lot of knowledge to the students regarding to her business experiences, such as sharing how to start a new business and open new outlets. The your entrepreneur also shared knowledge about tips for doing business, maintaining product quality, practicing excellent services and creating customer network.
She explained that, “To keep meeting with customers’ tastes, we always innovate and create new things in our ‘lab’ in order to create new menus that are delicious and innovative. In addition to the quality of the food, Papa Ron’s Pizza is also supported by a dedicated product development team having international experiences.” The business has got some awards, such as The Best Tasting Pizza from The Jakarta Post and the Third-place winner in the category of customer satisfaction from SWA magazine.
While introducing her products to the students, Mbak Anggi explained what made her products different from any other brands. The concept of all of her pizza restaurants is family restaurants, with the market targets from children to adults. “Our restaurants promote “East Meets West” cuisines, or Asian taste. The variants include Balado Eggpant Pizza, Baked Chicken Pizza, Strip Steak Pizza, BBQ Meat Fiesta, Asian Spicy Tuna Thai Garlic Chicken and many other topping variants. Our products are categorized into four in terms of taste such as Papa’s Pizza, Vegetarian Pizza, Loaded To The Max Pizza and Premium Pizza. There is also a sensational product known for its jumbo size (50cm diameter). It is named Godzilla Pizza. Mr. Yusuf S.T.Pi., M.Si., Ph.D., lecturing Entrepreneurship in the study program, added that“ Entrepreneurship is taught in university for it equips students skills to start a business, which corresponds to the scientific competence that they have learned in the campus. Entrepreneurship is not only about capital and hard skill, such as technical knowledge of business but also soft skill, which is business mentality. By inviting an entrepreneur, we hope tips can be shared with the students ahead of starting a business.”
“Besides adding entrepreneurship in the curriculum, the government also has facilitated students to train to be entrepreneurs through Student Creativity Program of Entrepreneurship (PKMK) funded by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. Take this golden chance, so that after graduating from the university, you be totally ready to start business in the field of food,” Mr. M. Yusuf persuaded the participants of the lecture.
Indeed, the spirit of entrepreneurship should always be fostered for the sake of the country’s advancement and competitiveness. “According to the data collected by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), the number of entrepreneurs in Indonesia is still 1.65% out of the entire Indonesian people, still left behind by other ASEAN nations such as Thailand (3%), Malaysia (5%) and Singapore (7%). The percentage of entrepreneurs in a country positively correlates to the development of the country. For example, the percentage of entrepreneurs in Japan is 10% out of the total population of the country, and in America is 12%.
