Semarang (October 14, 2017) Study Program of Nursing Profession at Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) and its alumni held a National Seminar on Nursing themed “Update Evidence of Pre Hospital And Hospital Cardiac Arrest Management” today. The event was a medium to show the alumna’s contribution towards the scientific development as well as the quality improvement of nursing services in accordance with cardiovascular emergencies. The seminar was considered important to held because cases of emergencies in this field were developing, starting from vasoconstriction or cardiovascular constriction, hearth, as well as traffic accidents. All of the aspects needed to take care of using emergency handling prior to arriving in the hospital.

3 national-level speakers gave materials in the seminar, which was held at Hotel Mulia. They were Ns. Subroto, M.Kep., the chairman of the Indonesian Cardiovascular Nurses Association (Ikatan Ners Kardiovaskuler Indonesia-Inkavin) and an emergency physician at dr. Sardjito Central General Hospital, Yogyakarta, Ns. Setyo Martono, M.Kep., a board member of Indonesian Emergency and Disaster Nurses Association (Himpunan Perawat Gawat Darurat Dan Bencana Indonesia/Hipgabi) for Central Java area and an emergency physician at Dr. Kariadi Central General Hospical, Semarang, and Dr. Edy Wuryanto, M.Kep., the Chairman of the Indonesian National Nurse Association (Persatuan Perawat Nasional/PPNI) for Central Java area and a Nursing lecturer at Unimus. Ns. Susilo Utomo, S.Kep., the committee chairman in his report speech stated that as many as 300 participants participated in the event, coming from several provinces in Indonesia. They consisted nurses working at hospitals, public health centers, and health clinics nurses, as well as lecturers and students from various educational institutions. Attended also were the Vice Rector II, study programs’ administrators, and lecturers of Nursing study program at Unimus.

Dr. Sri Rejeki., M.Kep., Sp.Mat., the Vice Rector II, who represented the Rector of Unimus, expressed her appreciation to the committee for establishing the event. She also stated that theme of the seminar was selected as an effort to improve the quality of nursing services dealing with cardiovascular cases, hoping that it could be used to share information and improve the competencies of the participating nurses in handling Cardiac Arrest. “Today, nurses in Indonesia are still highly needed. There have been around 300 thousand nurses but the number doesn’t meet with the entire needs. Furthermore, chances to work in this profession are still widely open,” Dr. Sri Rejeki explained.

Pada kesempatan tersebut ketua PPNI Jawa Tengah (Dr. Edy Wuryanto, M.Kep) mangungkapkan bahwa para perawat dibekali dengan kompetensi penanganan kegawatan dari tingkat dasar hingga advance. “Kemampuan tersebut diperlukan agar perawat dapat secara tepat, dalam memberikan pertolongan sehingga dapat mencegah kematian dan kecacatan. Semua perawat yang ada di rumah sakit atau pun komunitas, harus memiliki kemampuan ini,” papar Doktor, yang juga dosen Keperawatan Fikkes Unimus tersebut.
On the occasion, Dr. Edy Wuryanto, M.Kep., revealed that nurses were equipped with competencies in handling emergencies, from the lowest to highest (advanced) levels. “The abilities are required to make nurses ara capable of giving proper cares so that death and disability can be prevented. All nurses at either hospitals or communities should have this abilities,” he stated.
Materials given by the three speakers included ethical-legal aspects in cardiovascular emergency care, current evidences of cardiac arrest handling, and nurses’ roles in cardiac arrest management. The event was moderated by Ns. Nikmatul Khayati, M.Kep, from 08.30 a.m.-12.30 p.m.. The committee hoped that through the seminar, the participants, including nurses, lecturers, and Nursing students, would be able to improve their competencies and apply cardiac arrest management properly.
