Semarang | “Islam came to eradicate Jahiliya Arab culture. Tribal fanatism that had been so strong previously was slow but sure fading before finally disappeared. The position of women from under injustice, such as being men’s objects of impulses, locked up, as well as traded, has turned into noble and honorable. Allah explained in Al-Qur’an that men and women are equal. Both have the same treatment in accordance with their limits and nature. Islam has freed women from slavery in the Jahiliya era, saving from humiliation, disgrace, and helplessness to become honorable, noble, and free.” It was what stated by Lady Farhana, S.Psi, the speaker of a seminar held by Muhammadiyah College Student Association (IMM) of Unimus on today (May 26, 2018).

Lady Farhana, S.Psi, the speaker of a seminar held by Muhammadiyah College Student Association (IMM) of Unimus on May 26, 2018.

Taking place in the Nursing Research Center building at Unimus, the seminar was attended by participants from various higher education institutions in Semarang. Themed “Women’s role in Building the National Civilization”, Teh Lady (the speaker’s nickname) explained that women had to become productive. “We are given an opportunity by Allah to be here. We should be grateful. Humans are basically busy creatures. In 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, it is up to use choose and fill the time. You can choose whether wasting most of your time or doing positive and useful activities within it,” she explained.

The author of “Menyelami Makna Cinta (Comprehending the Meaning of Love)” stated that women shouldn’t prohibited themselves from getting developed. “For example, don’t refuse when asked to be the leader of some organization by stating that you don’t have the leadership competence. Refusing to be the keynote speaker for feeling ashamed and giving the chance to another person considered more competence,” she continued. Being an advanced woman should be brave to gain success. “If you are not dare to step on the ladder of success, and asks others to get the chance, we will be far left behind,” she, a woman from Cianjur-West Java, added.

Teh Lady added that if a woman couldn’t play her role as the main educator and good life companion, she failed to play the role as the nation’s pillar. Conversely, she had torn down the nation, indirectly. When a woman failed to play her role as the main educator, she wouldn’t create proper next generations but generations of “thugs” who liked brawls, narcotics, and promiscuity. Whereas, the leadership ‘relay baton’ would be given to the youth. “When the pillars are broken, the national will be destructed as well. That’s why Islam describes women as the nation’s pillars. If the women are good, the nation will be prosperous and vice versa. Thus, to fix this national, correcting the men only is not enough. We also need to correct the women. At last, with proper women, who understand their duties and essences, insya Allah, a good civilization in the world will be created.
