Semarang | In order to meet with one of the requirements of the hospital operational permit, the Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang has held Training on Prevention and Tackling of Fire in Collaboration with the Fire Department of Semarang City (July 29, 2018). Taking place in the K3 of the Unimus’ RSGM, the event was attended by dozens of participants consisting of campus security staffs, students, educational staffs, lecturers, and some others.
Also attending the training was drg. Bawa Adiwinarno, M.MedEd, as the Director of the Dental and Oral Hospital of Unimus. He stated that knowledge on how to prevent and tackle fire was very important to know. It was not only about the operational permit but also knowledge for all human resources of the hospital dealing with how to handle fire just in case that kind of accident would happen in the future. “In this hospital, we work for the patients’ welfare, so that when such unwanted accidents happen, we understand how to deal with that in the hospital area,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Drs. Samsudi Rahardjo, M.M., M.T., the Vice Rector III of Unimus, said that as common people, we had to participate in the training. “(We) will learn the management and handling in the worst condition due to fire,” he said. He also explained that the building construction of the hospital had taken into account the aspects of work security and safety. He told that the management of the hospital had prepared fire extinguishers and security system to prevent fire. He added that the watering system also had already been installed on each floor.
Expert from the Fire Department also explained that awareness on the importance of preventing fire and early handling of it were basically still lacking, especially among Indonesia people. Thus, he said, fire had frequently happened causing big losses. “To prevent fire and minimize the impacts if it really happens, sufficient knowledge on fire is needed to have. That is why this training is needed. There a lot of factors that can quicken fire and even explosion. They are sometimes not really realized by most people, in spite of the fact that preventing fire is easier and cheaper that handling it.” Besides, representatives from the Fire Department also introduced Lightweight Fire Extinguisher (Alat Pemadam Api Ringan/APAR) so that anybody could use it when there is fire.
