Semarang │(August 27, 2017) Institute of Islamic and Muhammadiyah Studies (LSIK) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) held a workshop on quality management of mentors / mentoring program assistants 2017 in Kedungmundu Campus. This workshop aimed was designed for the mentors of Islam and Muhammadiyah mentoring program, and attended by 58 students that have been appointd as the mentors for new students in academic year 2017/2018. Speakers of the event were Edy Soesanto, SKp, M.Kes (chairman of Unimus’ Institute of Educational Development and Quality/LP3M) delivering a speech about academic quality, Rohmat Suprapto, S.Ag., M.Si. (chairman of Unimus’ Institute of Islamic and Muhammadiyah Studies) and the team of teachers of Islam and Muhammadiyah, i.e. Mufnaety, M.Ag and Mamduh Budiman, S.S., M.Si.

The workshop on mentoring was opened by Drs. Samsudi Raharjo, M.M., M.T., the Vice Rector III who represented the Rector of Unimus. The event was held to show the commitment of Unimus to improve the quality of graduates, who are competent and competitive in facing the global competition, strengthened by their knowledge in Islam and Muhammmadiyah. “We want not only academically smart graduates but also those whose personalities are based on the values of Islam and Muhammadiyah. It ill be one of Unimus’ excellences,” the Vice Rector III explained.

Meanwhile, Mr. Rohmat Suprapto, S.Ag, M.Si. stated that this workshop was expected to equip mentor-candidates that would company new students to adapt with the campus life based on Islamic and Muhammadiyah values. “In the mentoring program, the new students will be taught to internalize the Islamic and Muhammadiyah values in the daily life. The mentors will also guide them in learning Al Quran and other positive values,” revealed the LSIK chairman. “The mentoring accompaniment and guidance are important, especially dealing with the recent condition of our society now. We hope that the mentoring will make it easier for us to give education of akhlaqul karimah or good manners” he explained. He added that the mentors were students that could become role models, such as Musyrifah of K.H. Sahlan Rosjidi Islamic Boarding School, administrators of Muhammadiyah College Students Association, and other students qualified to become mentors. “We hope that when they accompany the new students, they can really be role models. If so, the atmosphere of Islamic and Muhammadiyah life will be more more felt” he emphasized.
