Semarang | (26/02/2019) One of the prominent elements in students’ character in Higher Education is lecturer. In implementing Three-Pillars of Higher Education, lecturer should internalize such values that turn into university cultures. In other words, lecturer is not only responsible for transfering knowledge, but also transfering values. In accordance, Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) organised Workshop for Academic Advisor entitled “Peran Dosen Wali Dalam Pembentukan Karakter Mahasiswa”. This event was held in RSGM Hall of Unimus that invited three speakers such as Prof. Dr. M. Noor Rochman Hadjam SU (Vice Chairperson of the Council of Higher Education Research and Development of the Muhammadiyah), Dr. Sri Darmawati, M.Si. (Vice Rector I of Unimus), and Dr. Edy Soesanto, S.Kp, M.Kes (Head of LP3M Unimus) and moderated by Dr. M. Fatkhul Mubin, M.Kp Sp.Jiwa.

Prof. Dr. Noor Rohman Hadjam, SU stated that an academic adviser should be the uswatun hasanah and role model for students. As a lecturer, someone should understanding his/her role as person who transfer of value, transfer of attitude & transfer of experience to lead into great character students. “Forming good character is affected by insight, experience, stimulation, environment and education, that is why academic advisor is needed to form characterised students. Lecturer is demanded to have so many knowledge”, added professor of Psychology from UGM. “Character education is very important to lead students because it will determine the future of our nation, while good character can be affected by good attitude, manner, words, and thought. That is why academic advisor should be good role model for her/his students.” he ended.

Vice Rector I of Unimus explained that recently, Unimus has at least 218 lecturers, and this forum is expected to be the starting point to form good characterised students.”Academic advisor is regarded as father or mother representing students parents in campus. As parents, they should guide and advise the students to lead character building. said Dr. Sri Darmawati, M.Si.
