Presentation on commercializing intellectual properties by Dr. Muhammad Nur, DEA, a plasma technology expert.

Semarang | (November 2, 2017) Intellectual Property Rights Center (Pusat Hak Kekayaan Intelektual/HKI) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang has just held a socialisation on Intellectual Property Rights and Drafting Patent Clinic, attended by lecturers at the university. The event was opened by Dr. Sri Darmawati, M.Si., the Vice Rector I of Unimus, in the hall of Unimus’ Integrated Medical Laboratory building. The activities started on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. They included socialization on Intellectual Property Rights and Patent, with the guest speakers Dr. Muhammad Nur, DEA, a plasma expert, from Universitas Diponegoro, and the other from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. Meanwhile, on the second day, clinic on patent drafting was held. A consultant of Intellectual Property Rights from Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) became the guest speaker of the session. The event aimed to prepare lecturers to manage patent document for every finding of their researches.

Explanation by a representative to the Ministry of Law and Civil Rights dealing with strategies to get certificates of intellectual property rights.

Dr. Muhammad Nur, DEA, also a member of Unimus’ Daily Advisory Board, shared knowledge on commercialization of intellectual property and lecturer’s work to be then utilized by the society. As for the guest speaker from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, he delivered a material on strategies to get a certificate of intellectual property right. Meanwhile, on the second day, the participants were taught about how to make a proper patent draft.

Nowadays, the government has declared that patent and other intellectual properties as assets are expected to give benefits to the society as well as stimulate the economic development. Patent is one of the indicators of a technological achievement success at a university. A high patent productivity in an institution will enrich the nation’s patent count, which will give impact to the nation’s competitiveness. After attending the workshop, Unimus’ lecturers will begin strive for the benefits of their researches, with the outputs that can be patented. The increase of the numbers of patented lecturers’ works and certificate of intellectual property rights always become what Unimus wants because it is also able to increase the accreditation scores of either the study programs or the institution. Those that can be utilized commercially for industry will also give benefit to the institution.
