Malang, March 7, 2017 | University of Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) Student Executive Board (SEB) did a comparative study called Study Sahabat (Study of Friends). The participants of the study include representatives of Unimus’ student organizations. The study was conducted at 2 universities in Malang City, such as the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) and Brawijaya University. The theme of the event was “Establishing Silaturahim (Partnership), aiming at establishing silaturahmi with UMM and Brawijaya University.
The study is one of the work programs of Unimus’ SEB in order to develop student organizations within Unimus. Success of the study was due to good cooperation between the SEBs.
The contingent firstly visited the UMM’s campus. They were warmly welcomed by the host, with a ceremonial event consisting of opening ceremony and then some greetings from the representatives of both universities, such as UMM’s Head of Academic and Student Affairs Bureau (Drs. Abdullah Masmu.,M.Si.), the Division Head of Student Affairs, the President of the Students (Fais Nirwan Hamid) as well as the representatives to the SEBs of the Faculties, the Departmental Student Associations, Muhammadiyah Student Association, and the Student Activity Units of UMM. As many as 80 students of Unimus joined the comparative study, consisting of the heads of the student organizations. All of them were enthusiastic to participate the study.
Mr. Sukamdi, A.Md, as the representative of Unimus’ Bureau of Academic and Student Affairs, stated briefly about the condition of Unimus. He also expressed his admiration on the campus of UMM. On the other side, Mr. Drs. Abdullah Masmu., M.Si., as the Head of Student Affairs Bureau of UMM also explained briefly about the condition of the campus where he belongs to as well as the students. He stated that university students should be dynamic, idealist and critical. He also stated a couple of things in his speech. UMM president of the students expressed his happiness to Unimus for their choice of visiting UMM. In line with that the president of the other side told the students of Unimus to learn many things from student organizations outside Unimus.
The second visit in Malang was at Brawijaya University. No official welcome was held by the institution. However, the presidents of the students of both universities delivered some speech in the event. the president of Brawijaya’ students (Ahmad Khoirudin) expressed his gratitude for the visit. Meanwhile, the president of Unimus’ students stated to always learn from other student organizations outside Unimus. And, sharing with Brawiyaha University would be beneficial especially for the activists of Unimus’ student organizations and the students in general. Following the session was some visits to several student organizations’ base camps at Brawijaya University, guided by some Brawijaya’s activists.
The success of the study at UMM and Brawijaya University is hopefully able to give positive impacts toward Unimus. Besides, the students will immediately implement what they have learned from the study in accordance with the developments of their organizations. At last, it is hoped that the study will teach something, give example as well as motivate the students and all other academicians of Unimus so that they can hold useful activities and programs in the future, for the sake of the institution.
