
Semarang │ April 21, 2017 University of Muhammadiyah Semarang and the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences (Fikkes) of Unimus held an event to celebrate Kartini Day. There were two themes chosen in the event, such as “Toward the Developed Unimus with the Spirit of Kartini” formulated by Unimus and the “Charm of the Sould of Today’s Kartini”. The event aimed at fostering the nationalistic spirit, upholding the spirit of Kartini and paying respect to all Indonesian women.

The event was fully supported by the Rector of Unimus (Prof. Dr. Masrukhi., M.Pd.) and participated by the students, educational staffs, lecturers and senior leaders of Unimus. The event started with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. in the beautiful park of Unimus. The Rector of Unimus stated that Kartini was one of Indonesian influential women frequently connected to gender in equality and equality in role between men and women. “The celebration remind us that Indonesia and Islam pay respect so much to women, women have important role in the life of the nation”, added the rector.

Various competitions were held in the event such as Campus Pageant Kang Mas and Mbak Yu Fikkes 2017, fashion show, Tumpeng garnishing and photography competitions. All of the academicians were obliged to wear traditional costumes during the event. A French volunteer of the mid-term volunteering program (Lea Marjorie Sanchez) was seen also participating in the event. She entertained the other participants by singing a French song.
At the end of the event, it was announced that Mas Dimas Oviani Syahputra (student of Undergraduate Program of Nutrition) and Candra Fitriana (student of Undergraduate Program of Nursing) were chosen as Kang Mas and Mbak Yu Fikkes 2017. Meanwhile, the first winner of the fashion show competition was Eni Nur Farianti (student of DIII of Health Analyst); the first winner of the Tumpeng garnishing competition was team of the Undergraduate Program of Nursing and the first winner of the photography competition was not yet as announced as the process of assessment had not finished yet.
It is hoped that the event can be a routine/annual agenda at the University of Muhammadiyah Semarang in order to preserve and keep loving the culture. It is hoped also that we can appreciate the struggles and spirit o R.A. Kartini as a woman warrior.
