Semarang | Facing the challenge of Industry 4.0, Indonesia absolutely demands many young, brave, and tough engineers. Head of Indonesian Engineers Association (PPI) for Centra Java Region, Ir. Wisnu Suharto, Dipl., HE., IPU, ACPE states that the readiness of Human Resources in engineering is highly demanded in supporting national development. “The Indonesian development so far is can not be separated from great engineers. That is why, today I ask you, the students of engineering department to get ready and prepare yourselves in response to sophisticated and and continuous digital era.” Said the Head of PII Central Java in his presentation on general lecture held by Engineering Faculty of Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang on Tuesday (30/10/2018). According to his opinion, students have to be ready to take the massive challenge of Industry 4.0. Since this era creates new pattern in working world world such as new profession and skills, on the other hand some obsolete skill might be lost.

General lecture held in Kampus 4 Unimus was attended by hundreds of students from Electronic and Mechanical Engineering department. By embracing “Engineers’ Role and Strategy to Prepare Globalisation Era in Industry 4.0″, this general lecture was moderated by the Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, Dr.Purnomo, M.Eng. In addition, the Head of PII expressed that industry 4.0 demands new skills and innovation. “Therefore, some Higher Education Institution needs to Human Resource reinforcement to prompt creative, innovative and responsive efforts towards any changes happen.” He ended.
Besides, Dr. RM. Bagus Irawan, S.T., M.Si., IPP, Dean of Engineering Faculty of Unimus also explained to the audience that being engineer is one of the most wanted profession in this era. It is expected that students of engineering department of Unimus can be one of the qualified Human Resources with added values to fulfil the requirement of market necessity.
