Semarang │ March 9, 2017 University of Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) held an event of experience sharing of studying abroad in form of a seminar. The event was entitled “Easy Tips for Studying in Japan””. The guest speaker in the event was drg. Syarifah Nova Amiza Zam., Ph.D., one of Dentistry program lecturers of Unimus, who graduated from Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan. The event was attended by the member of the governing body of the university, heads of the faculties and study programs, as well as the lecturers of Unimus.

Vice Rector II (Dr. Sri Rejeki., M.Kep., Sp.Mat.) in charge with opening the event explained that the seminar could inspire all Unimus’ lecturers, especially those who continued the study. Moreover, the Vice Rector II also persuaded the lecturers to be able to study overseas. The event located in the Integrated Medical Laboratory of Unimus became one of the efforts of the university to meet with the needs of the human resources in educational field, especially to improve the quality of the lecturers.

Some strategies were shared by the speaker to begin studying abroad, such as searching for the right campus, intensively contacting the professor in the target campus till getting the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and looking for financial aid in form of scholarship. Moreover, drg. Nova also stated that the keys to successfully studying a doctoral program  are: obeying the rules, learning to adapt with the local culture, mastering English and the official language of the target country, focusing to learn the field chosen, setting the target of the study and finally finishing it properly. After attending the event, the participants are hoped to have greater interests in and look for chances to study a doctoral degree overseas in order to improve the quality of the lecturers.
