Semarang, April 8, 2017 Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Foreign Language and Culture (FBBA), the University of Muhammadiyah Semarang in cooperation with the Student Activity Unit of GOUNIMUS held Unimus English Debating Championship (UEDC). The event aimed at improving the quality and achievement of Unimus’ students by giving them chances to express their critical thinking that correspond to recent problems in the world through debating. The event also aimed at selecting those who will represent Unimus in the English Debating Championship held by Kopertis (Coordination of Private Higher Education Institutions). UEDC was started on 8 a.m., opened officially by the Dean of FBBA Unimus, Yesika Maya Ocktarani, S.S., M.Hum.
UEDC is an annual event routinely held by FBBA. In 2017, 12 teams from 7 Unimus’ study programs participated in the competition. Discussing the most recent global problems, it finished on 6 p.m when 4 winners were announced. The first winner of UEDC 2017 was from English Education study program (Sri Eka Lestari and Ulfa Agustiani), the second winner was from Statistics study program (Ani Kholifah and Lia Miftahkhul), the third winner was from English literature study program (Alfa Yuda Ghifari and Meilita Ivana H.) and the fourth winner was also from English Literature study program (Tiarani Khoirunnisa and Umi Listiana). Meanwhile, the Best speaker went to Sri Eka Lestari from English Education study program. All of the winners will take intensive training prior to being selected to represent Unimus in the debating competition held by Kopertis of Central Java.
