Semarang │ May 3, 2017 University of Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) held a social work event (baksos) in cooperation with the Aisyiyah Regional Executive Board of (PDA) of Semarang City and the Government of Semarang City. The event was held as an implementation of community service in accordance with improving the community’s health, especially maternal health. This event was attended by the Vice Chairperson of of the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) of Semarang City (Asih Prihatoeti Adi Tri Hananto, S.Sos.), head of PDA of Semarang City (Hj. Widyatuti Renaningsih., S.H)., Vice Rector I (Dr. Sri Darmawati., M.Si.) and Vice Rector of Unimus (Dr. Sri Rejeki., M.Kep., Sp.Mat.). Mrs. Asih Prihatoeti Adi Tri Hananto stated that “All members of the society need to work together and have synergy to improve people’s awareness on health, including on how to decrease maternal mortality rate (AKI). “What the government has done is never enough without people’s helps and supports, including those at universities including the academicians at Unimus”. The vice rector I, also as head of the Health Council of PDM of Central Java added that maternal mortality rate in Semarang City was the 4th highest among all cities in Central Java province, so that Unimus was moved to involve itself in improving maternal health as well as reduce the mortality rate.
Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) of Semarang City, Office of Population Control and Family Planning of Semarang City, lecturers and students of Unimus also participated in the event. Activities in the event consisted of free health care, such as Family Planning services, IVA exams, medical checks, health counselling and Quran Healing Therapy, held in the NRC building of Unimus. The participants of the event were people of Semarang City and the surroundings, totally around 220 people. It is known through some interviews to the participants that events like this is very useful and needed because people can find out what their health status as well as get medical services.
