Semarang │ May 15, 2017 Dr. Ir. H. Taufik Kurniawan., M.M., Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia for Economic and Financial Affairs visited the University of Muhamadiyah Semarang to give a general lecture entitled “The Indonesia’s Political Development in the Contemporary Era”. Taking place in the hall of Unimus Intergrated Laboratory, the event was attended by all Unimus academicians and opened officially by, Prof. Dr. Masrukhi., M.Pd., the Rector. On that occasion, the rector stated that Unimus always supported the national advancement “Through the stadium general, we hope that all Unimus’ academicians will care of national problems and any phenomenon around them more and more since as citizens, we have to involve ourselves in every political process based on roles and positions either as scientists, lecturers or students.”
Dr. Taufik Kurniawan emphasized that in the national situation that was dynamic due to energy crisis and cultural transformation, all political efforts had to put in the first place people’s interests. As the vice speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia for Economic and Monetary Affairs as well as a member of Unimus’ Daily Advisory Board, he stated that from Muhammadiyah, an intellectual figure was hoped emerging, the one that would be solemn and sincere in struggling for the people, to deal with the cultural transformation. “Muhammadiyah and the academicians of Muhammadiyah can be the fortress of moralty in the cultural transformation, especially tranformation in technological advancement. It can give some negative impacts, with the presence of online system. Social media should be filtered in order to not become harmful for the life of the nation” expressed Taufik. He also explained that academicians had to have a strong scientific guide. “Meanwhile, as members of Muhammadiyah, we also had to improve our efforts to do dakwah”.
In front of the academicians, Taufik Kurniawan revealed his hope, saying that cadres of Muhammadiyah shouldn’t only become spectators in the dynamics of the national politics. He encouraged young generations to become parts of solutions of the national problems. On the same occasion, Taufik also revealed that young cadres raised by Muhamadiyah should become parts of politics and played a role in constitutional actions in order to be the solutions for the nation. At the end of the discussion session, the vice speaker of the House of Representatives sent a message to the younger generations and cadres of Muhammadiyah to not just getting trapped in ceremonial and rhetoric things. They had to look around and be responsive to the existence of any cultural transformation.
