The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs (VR I), Deputy Speaker of the People’s Representative Council and Speaker of the IMM’s Regional Executive Board of Central Java

Semarang │ April 1, 2017 Deputy Speaker of the People’s Representative Council for Economic and Monetary Affairs (Dr. Ir. H. Taufik Kurniawan, M.M.) visited the University of Muhammadiyah Semarang today. The visit was made in accordance with the invitation to be the guest speaker in the National Seminar on the 53rd Anniversary of Muhammadiyah Students’ Association (IMM).

The seminar was opened officially by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs on behalf of the Rector of Unimus, Prof. Dr. Masrukhi., M.Pd. The Vice Rector stated that students joining the IMM had to be part of contributing young generation. Those with high qualities were expected to give their contributions to the quality enhancement of the nation. “University students have to always practice amar ma’ruf nahi mungkar (Enjoin good, forbid evil), have a courage to defend the truth, build good characters both personally and in the community so that they can gather strength for the future generations” added she.

Themed “Seminar nasional bertema “Service for Ummah for Sovereign Indonesia”, the national seminar was attended by the IMM’s Regional Executive Board of Central Java, representatives of IMM Semarang, IMM Unimus, student organizations and student activity units (around 100 participants). Speaker of the Regional Executive Board (Abdul Wahid), an Unimus alumnus stated in his greeting that young generations had to always play a role in any improvement and support government’s programs. . “IMM and the alumni of Unimus have to always work and actively give contributions to the nation, and be critical expressed in positive ways.” he explained.

The Deputy Speaker of the People’s Representative Council, also a member of the Daily Advisory Board of Unimus expressed his support for the development of Unimus. He hoped that Unimus would be more and more glorious and popular. He also stated that Muhammadiyah and IMM could create intellectual figures devoted to struggling as a response to the cultural transformations in all fields and in order to transform Indonesia into a genuinely sovereign country. “After graduating from university, young generations should not only think about the local community but also what they can do for the nation, the homeland and ummah.” he expressed. He added that young generations should always be united, honest, not involved in money politics and committed to supporting those who have the attitudes sidiq (truthfulness), amanah (trustworthiness), tablig (advocacy) and fathanah (wisdom). Abdul Wahid was a moderator of this seminar, which was quite rousing for the participants looked enthusiastic in asking questions and active in the discussion session. At the end of the discussion session, the  Deputy Speaker of the People’s Representative Council left a message to the audience to be istiqomah (consistent) in case of getting an important or good position, to never forget thinking of ummah and persyarikatan.
