
Semarang | 18 November 2016 The Faculty of Economics (FE) of the University of Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) held a general lecturer on November 16, 2016. Invited to give the lecture had been the Mayor of Semarang City, who then delegated the Head of Division for Cooperation, the Secretary Office of Semarang City ( Mr. Hernowo Budi Luhur).
Attending the lecture were the Vice Rector III (Drs. Samsudi Raharjo, M.M., M.T.,), representing the Rector, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics (Dr. Hardi Winoto, S.E., M.Si.), the Faculty’s heads of study programs, and the rest of the academicians of the Faculty of Economics.
Moderated by Mr. Djoko Setyo H. S.E., M.M., S.H., M.Kn., the lecture was entitled “The Smart City Development“. Mr. Hernowo in this lecture discussed the significance of digitalization in the development of a city, especially in cities like Semarang. He also discussed the utilization of an information system related to the governmental information and management of Semarang City.

The Dean of the Faculty of Economics in his welcoming speech stated that the general lecture was complimentary to regular lectures given ordinarily in the classroom. He informed that there are two kinds of non-regular lecture such as general lecture and field trip. In addition, he explained the role of the smart city development in building Semarang city so that the city can become a dignified, smart, comfortable, and beautiful city, in order to reach the final goal: Semarang Hebat (the Great Semarang). Moreover, if connected to economics, the essense of a smart city is how it makes its people more prosperous.
All in all, the general lecture was also aimed to start cooperation between the local government of Semarang City and Unimus. It was also used to formally asked for permission to Mr. Hernowo about things related to the faculty’s students’ apprenticeships at the secretary office in the hope that they could learn something from government agencies
Meanwhile, the Vice Rector III in his speech explained about the history of the Smart City Development to the students.
