Semarang │UNIMUS (September 21, 2017) 1.540 new students from 22 study programs at Universitas Muhamadiyah Semarang (Unimus) attended a general lecture on Islam and Muhammadiyah (AIK), delivered by Drs. H.M. Tafsir, M.Ag., the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Provincial Executive Board of Central Java Province and Rokhmat Suprapto, S.Ag., M.Si., the Chairman of the Institute of Islam and Muhammadiyah Studies (LSIK) of Unimus. The lecture was officially opened by Drs Samsudi Rahardjo, MM, MT., the Vice Rector III of Unimus.

Drs. H.M. Tafsir., M.Ag, the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Provincial Executive Board of Central Java Province was delivering a general lecture.

Drs. Rohmat Suprapto, M.Si, stated that the general lecture was to open the mentoring program held for new students of regular programs. “The mentoring of AIK in 2017 will be held in 14 meetings on every Saturday morning, involving 85 trained mentors. The new students will be divided into groups of 15-20 students to discuss about Islam and Muhammadiyah, learn to read and write Al Quran, supervised by the mentors who have been trained before,” he stated.

During the lecture on AIK in Attaqwa Mosque, located in the integrated campus of Unimus on Wednesday (September 20, 2017), Drs. H.M. Tafsir, M.Ag., said that students had to win every available competition. He explained that by learning in a proper place putting in the first place morals, [students] are potentially able to see the future more clearly, to become excellent persons, and precious persons. “There are a very few young people that know what to be in the future, they don’t know or haven’t known yet about their future. Younger generations today face very tight competitions, such as in workplace where thousands of people are applying but only a few of those are accepted. Hence, young people have to become excellent generations to be able to win the competitions and have certainty about their future” he explained.

Moreover, he stated that moral degradations have recently occurred. Those could be solved only by religious implementations, and character and moral buildings for the youngsters. “Muhammadiyah was founded upon some philosophical bases such as living with tauhid, becoming a sociable person, struggling is a muslim’s obligation. Young people should also run their religious lives along with their social lives properly. Young people are asked to always learn properly for learning is a part of jihad / struggling as khalifatullah” he stated. By taking part in this general lecture, the students are expected to have an early understanding on AIK, as a basis to take the mentoring program. Mentoring on AIK has been held since 2012, in order to support one of the missions of Unimus, which is to create excellent graduates, who are faithful and pious.
