Semarang │(August 28, 2017) Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) in collaboration with the Coordination of Private Higher Education Institutions (Kopertis) for Area VI of Central Java Province holds a workshop on Applied Approach (AA) for lecturers. The event starts from today (August 28_ through August 31, 2017, located in th Integrated Medical Laboratory of Unimus. 52 lecturers from 20 study programs at Unimus take part in this workshop. The event has been opened officially by Amsar, S.H., M.M., the Managing Secretary of the Coordination of Private Higher Education Institutions Area VI of Central Java Province. Attending the opening ceremony were Prof. Dr. Masrukhi, M.Pd., the Rector of Unimus, the institution’s senior leaders. Meanwhile, experts that will become the speakers during the event include Mr. Amsar, S.H., M.M., Prof. Dr. Sunandar (a Professor of Education Sciences) and four other experts on education that have been appointed by Kopertis.

Rector of Unimus in his welcome speech stated that to guarantee the creation of quality graduates, Unimus lecturers needed to empower themselves with four basic competences of a lecturer such as scientific, social, personal, and pedagogic competences. “Those four competences need to be possessed comprehensively by each of the lecturers in order to create paripurna (perfect) graduates. The Applied Approah workshop is a medium for lecturers to enhance their pedagogic competence, Prof. Masrukhi explained.

Mr. Amsar, SH, MM when delivering his material stated that lecturer was a component that couldn’t be separated from the efforts to create valuable higher education graduates. “High pedagogic competence of a lecturer will be a lecturer’s main ‘weapon’ to give a learning material. The pedagogic competence can be improved through trainings on Pekerti and Applied Approach in order to make lecturers well-trained to make the students interested and actively involved in every learning session,” Mr. Amsar stated. He added that every lecturer was demanded to make breakthroughs as well as have an ability to make their students stay involved for a long time within academic activities.

Meanwhile, Edy Soesanto, S.Kp., M.Kes., the chairman of the Institute of Educational Development and Quality Assurance (LP3M) of Unimus, stated during an interview after the opening ceremony that this program was the follow up of the Development Program of Instructional Technique Basic Skills (Pekerti). “All lecturers have to take this stage of training, not only to improve their teaching abilities but also to promote their functional positions using the certificate of Pekerti and of Applied Approah,” he added. In the Applied Approach workshop, the lecturers will be trained to create learning media, teaching materials, class action research proposals, and so on that support their competences in order to enhance the learning quality.
